Today I am sharing my take on the ruffle trend. Spring Summer 17′ catwalks at London, New York, Paris and Milan Fashion Week had an abundance of new exciting trends: from 80’s-inspired shoulders, washes of fuchsia pink and canary yellow to new takes on sheer and ruffled textures. Definitely, a ruffle trend was the most feminine amongst them.
When you think of frills, flounce and ruffles, odds are: you’re picturing yourself, age four, heading to a family event wearing a scratchy party dress covered in fluted layers. You loved that dress but stopped wearing anything frilly because, well, you grew up.
How do I wear a ruffle trend?
I choose to wear a ruffle trend elegantly. Ruffle sleeves of this red dress are very romantic. They inspired me to create this feminine outfit. I paired the red dress with a soft pink coat. If you know me, it would not be a surprise to you that I love mixing bright colours in my outfits. A combination of bright red and soft pink reminded me of tasty macaroons so I could not resist wearing them together.
Even though the dress and the coat are both quite vivid pieces, I made a choice to add statement accessories to this look too. A statement necklace, gold earrings and a ring are always a wonderful idea for an elegant and feminine look. In spring 2017 I pay an extra attention to accessories. Now like never before, – apart from the 80’s style – the more accessories the better. This embroidery bag with pearls helped me to pull all the colours and textures of the outfit together. I am so happy to wear the romantic ruffles and floral prints, it’s spring at last!

Today I’ve got news for you. The historically childlike detail has gotten a high-fashion makeover during the last couple of seasons. Top designers like Miu Miu, Marni, Marc Jacobs, Simone Rocha showed pieces with exaggerated ruffles, voluminous frills, and structured flounce.
Similar to fancy sleeves, ruffles are transitioning from the autumn/winter catwalks to the next season with a serious kick. This time round, they’ve been given an elegant makeover and more wearable than ever. Indeed, ruffles still imbue a feminine charm, but they also add a sense of drama that makes up for a perfect evening look.
Amongst other fashion trends for spring 2017, ruffled sleeves are actually the cutest trend. Whether they’re framing the face or spiralling off the hips, architectural ruffles build the foundation of a dramatic evening look. These stiff, austere waves are more modern than the ones of past seasons, making this feminine detail feel new again.

How to Wear the Ruffle Trend
Ruffles act as their own accessory, so there’s no need to trot out your jewels. If they’re snaking around your neck or cascading down your shoulder, pull your hair back in a sleek style so it doesn’t interfere. These oversized undulations go nicely with pumps or sandals in a complementary, yet not matching colour.
Ruffles are the perfect way to sweeten up any look. For a night out, slip on an off-the-shoulder ruffled dress or style a girly top with a pair of fresh white skinnies. Too sweet for your taste? Modernise the flounce with menswear elements, like tailored trousers and brogues, or topped with a sharp blazer. Consider this as a cherry-on-top of your spring wardrobe.
To avoid looking too saccharine, opt for a structured or exaggerated flounce and pair with tailored trousers. Those, who are only dipping into the trend, should consider a yoke blouse or ruffle trim shirt, which looks great teamed with a pair of boyfriend jeans. Or tuck a frilled shirt into a thigh-baring pencil skirt for a grown-up look. Accessories are key in this – grunge up a pretty ruffle top with a pair of opaque tights and Converse, very Saint Laurent.
I hope you liked my outfit and advice on how to wear ruffle trend.
