River Island Press Day Summer 2016 was amazing! I’m so glad I have a chance to see all the collections in advance and share with you. Last week River Island presented courageous and influential High Summer 2016 collections in London. Vibrant colours, texture and trim details are key features for the season – fresher, bolder and wearable as ever, the collection encapsulates everything needed for a Summer wardrobe. The trends take inspiration from an array of influences, here classics are reinvented with a River Island twist for a modern feel.
Transitioning into high summer CARMEN continues with a palette of . The trend comprises feminine and pretty with latina influences for a new-romantic pleasant vibe. Shapes are bold and dramatic with voluminous shoulders and sculpted frills. Accents of broderie, lace and applique ensure the collection is visually exciting with key pieces being bolero jackets, lace culottes and cropped kick-flares. A tonal dressing comes in a monochrome palette with fresh white on white or summer black on black, splices of bold colour come in cobalt, yellow and hot pink.

Clean and smart dressing with a nod to nautical is apparent through SPA SEA. Whilst predominantly focusing on smart dressing, crisp white tailoring is juxtaposed against flayed finishes and raw edgings for a rustic yet contemporary feel. Stripes come in all guises from patterned, broken and graphic in a melange of blues; from chalky pastel, indigo and buzzy with highlights of lemon yellow and orange. The texture is key with ethnic boucle, jacquards and lace with decorative detail coming from studding, saddle stitching and broderie.
LE CHIC has an artisan feel with a classic and sophisticated approach to utility dressing. Mixing contrasting fabrications for a contemporary look, suede, nylon and leather are combined. Milky tones, olives, rusts and tan make up the unconventional autumnal palette replacing traditional summer hues, whilst including hints of pink and mink. Hem lines are focal with maxi lenghts and hi-low being key. Fringing, whip stitching and ethnic trims add an element of diversity to keep the collection looking fresh. Le chic offers beach to bar pieces in a rustic palette using natural fabrics for a relaxed and casual style. Holey knits and crochet are seen for cover-ups whilst little details are added with boucle and raffia trims.
With a mash up of inspiration, ETIENNE fuses 90’s sport with seventies chic the perfect alternative to festival dressing, steering away from bohemian and fringing, instead focusing on embellishment, crochet and lace. Double denim embroidered co-ords are hero pieces with a nod to western, whilst nineties street is evident through patchwork suede bombers and dungarees. Block colour dressing in monochrome hues is lifted with highlights of rich green and hot orange whilst stripes and ditsy floral prints give a retro feel to the collection.
