Aneliese Ryan | an interview with a model

Aneliese Ryan an interview with a fashion model

My today’s interview is with Aneliese Ryan. Aneliese is not only a beautiful model with incredible eyes but also a very talented dancer and kind person. She told me how her friend and she created their own model agency at the age of 13 and what was her first job. Enjoy!

Yuliya: What agency are you with?

Aneliese Ryan: I’m with Profile Model Management.

Yuliya: How long have you been modelling for?

Aneliese Ryan: I’ve always done bits and bobs since I was about 13. Myself and my best friend Jack Thomson started our own modelling agency when we were at ballet school together, he was the photographer and I was the model. We used to go round to vintage clothing boutiques and ask if they wanted some photos for their brand, some would actually to pay us too! My first professional campaign was for Figs&Rouge organic skin care when I was about 14. I signed with Profile about 11 months ago

Yuliya: What made you go into modelling?

Aneliese Ryan: Like I say I’ve always done little bits, however, my main passion in life has always been dancing. After completing my training, I was booked through my dance agency as a model for Wella (*hair show). All the makeup artists and stylists were asking what agency I was with, (*I wasn’t signed at that point). So, just thought I’d try my luck with the open calls in a few London agencies. I was over the moon when Profile wanted to sign me.

Yuliya: What is it like being a female within the fashion industry?

Aneliese Ryan: It’s competitive I’m not going to lie. BUT it’s nothing how I imagined it to be. There are so many beautiful girls out there, and you don’t always get the job you want but fashion never sleeps, so if you’re not right for that one, you’ll be perfect for the next. The key is to stay positive.

Yuliya: Are all the rumors true about what you hear about models starving themselves and not looking after bodies?

Aneliese Ryan: As far as I’m aware models DON’T starve themselves, our bodies are what makes us our money, so obviously we have to meet the appearance the industry requires. I think its more about exercise and keeping toned than starving ourselves. I regularly go out on lunch dates with my girls and happily demolish a cheesy pizza! Most of my friends go to the gym and work out and live a healthy lifestyle as do I. But we’re still human and still enjoy pigging out every now and then.

Yuliya: What is the best job you have done as a model and why?

Aneliese Ryan: I did my first season of London Fashion Week back in September, and it was incredible!! I love doing catwalk. I think it feels more like a performance and I love the adrenaline you get just before you walk out, and the rush to get changed and back out on time!

Yuliya: How much competition do you face and how do you overcome it?

Aneliese Ryan: The modelling industry is competitive because there are so many beautiful girls out there, however, fashion never sleeps and if you’re not right for one job you’ll probably be perfect for the next. The key is to stay positive!

Yuliya: What is an average 9-5 day like (Is it all glitz and glamour)?

Aneliese Ryan: An average 9-5, gosh I get this all the time “ooo Aneliese you lead such a glamours lifestyle” there are two types of days in the world of a model: shoot days and casting days. A shoot/show day is amazing, and it really is glamorous, hours in hair and makeup, manicure and pedicure, beautiful clothes etc. Casting days are not so glamorous, especially if it’s raining. They are usually all over London, so the majority of the day is spent on the underground. Citymapper is a model’s best friend and if your phone dies halfway through the day, you’re pretty screwed! At each casting,  you must change into your heels top up makeup, brush your hair and present your book and cards, and then straight onto the next. Which will usually be on the complete opposite side of London and you only have 15 minutes to get there, and you repeat this around 4-7 times a day. It’s hard work, but I love it!

Yuliya: How do you unwind after a hard day at work?

Aneliese Ryan: I like to take all of my makeup off, get into my pj’s with a face mask on and watch a movie, or see friends for dinner and drinks.

Yuliya: What is the hardest thing about the modelling industry for you?

Aneliese Ryan: I think the hardest thing is realising how lucky us models are. There are few people in the world that are able to wake up in a morning and say wow I can’t wait to go to work.

Yuliya: Beauty or fashion?

Aneliese Ryan: Fashion!

Yuliya: If you could improve one thing about the industry what would it be?

Aneliese Ryan: I really don’t know how to answer this question. I’ve only ever had positive experiences in my modelling career so far.

Yuliya: Who do you dream to work for?

Aneliese Ryan: I’d love to walk for Vivienne Westwood!

Yuliya: Prada or Chanel?

Aneliese Ryan: Prada

Yuliya: Catwalk of a campaign?

Aneliese Ryan: Catwalk

I’ve been lucky enough to dress models for Paris Fashion Week and I see so many girls being sad and bumped out about being a model…it’s so cool to see how positive she is! 🙂
