Getting the perfect self-tan can be challenging at times. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a self-tanning lotion, cream, gel, milk, mousse, or spray… you have to know the techniques for the best application and maintaining the result for the perfect tan that lasts.
Since getting a tan under the sun or inside a tanning bed might be harmful to your skin and your health, you need to think about alternatives. Fortunately, you can still get a gorgeous glow with self-tanning products. Once you’ve decided that you want the many benefits that a beautiful fake tan provides, the next step is deciding exactly how to fake tan. Today I am sharing my 3 steps routine to the perfect self-tan.
How to Prepare Skin for Sunless Tanners
The key for an even streak-free tan that lasts is a good skin. Make sure to moisturise your skin every day for a couple of days and exfoliate the skin right before applying a self-tanner. Avoid using oil-based exfoliators. An oily surface will break up the tanning foam. As a result, the tan will be uneven and streaky.
It would be beneficial to take a warm shower – neither too cold nor too hot – and clean your skin using plain soap, rather than moisturising body wash, to rinse away any sloughed-off skin.
The final step is to shave your legs before applying the tanning foam. Applying self-tanner on top of hair makes for a blotchy tan. Get the closest shave possible before applying any tanning products. Ensure your skin is clean and dry prior to application.
How to Apply Fake Tan for The Best Results
Once your skin is ready, you need to use high quality products and the best techniques of applying the self-tanner to get an ultimate even tan. My latest find is a Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Self Tanning Foam. It has a dual tanning actives and a signature coconut scent in its formula, which helps it to develop into the darkest tan.
3 Steps To The Perfect Self Tan with Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Self-Tanning Foam
This is how I recommend applying the self-tanner foam.
If you did not have time to take a shower and exfoliate your skin, use Bondi Sands Exfoliation Mitt to ensure your skin is clean and free from any moisturisers.
Pump foam directly onto your application mitt. Using long, sweeping motions apply foam over legs, arms and body. Add more foam when needed. Use remaining tan for face, elbows, and knees. Make sure to blend the product evenly. For those hard to reach places you might want to try the Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Back Applicator or ask somebody to help you. Let the self-tanner dry and wear some comfy clothes.
With this foam, the skin may be washed as soon as 1 hour after application. For a longer lasting, darker tan leave it for up to 6 hours before showering with warm water. Gently pat skin dry, don’t rub the skin. For the deepest tan re-apply Bondi Sands self-tanning foam 30 minutes after initial application or the next day.
Maintaining Your Fake Tan
Now the aim is to get the most out of your tan. It would be a waste to leave it there when it is possible to improve your tan every day by just spending an additional couple of minutes. I recommend applying products that are designed to prolong your tan or, at least, moisturise your skin daily with your favourite hydrating lotion.
Try an Everyday Liquid Gold by Bondi Sands. This superior dry oil formula sets in a moment and develops over 2 – 3 hours. It lasts for up to a week. Infused with the fresh scent of Coconut and hydrating Argan Oil, Liquid Gold is the longest lasting tan and conveniently requires no wash off. Apply a dry oil evenly onto the skin in circular motion. Wait until touch dries before dressing. Enjoy your tan!
