Every city girl likes to have a beautiful looking face and her makeup to last all day. A great makeup look is obviously dependent on how you feel, your application skills and how you choose your makeup. It’s not a secret that a perfect makeup starts with the primer before applying anything else. The primer is a colourless (or sometimes has colour) substance that you apply on the face to act as a barrier between the makeup and your skin. It’s designed to meet your skin’s and makeup’s needs at the same time to give you that flawless skin look. But, in order to win, you have to know how to choose a makeup primer before buying one.
For things to work as they should, you must make sure you have chosen the primer that is compatible with your skin type. You don’t just use any primer because it can ruin your makeup instantly. There are different common types of skin including dry skin, oily skin, and sensitive skin. Each one of these will have a specific primer that matches well with the skin type. Let’s explore how to choose makeup primer for these different types of skin.
How to Choose Makeup Primer for a Dry Skin
This is a skin type that is dehydrated. Therefore you need to choose makeup primer that will moisturise your skin, and at the same time give you a clear or dewy finish. Go for a primer that has the label hydrating, moisturising, soothing, glowing or replenishing. These are the commonly used words that will describe a primer that will work well with a dry skin.
You must ensure that the primer you use has the oily ingredient so that your skin will stay moisturised. Bear in mind that dry skin has so many complications especially when purchasing lotions and foundations. Some of the products might be too heavy and make your skin look oily and shiny. Not a good look! So you have to ask the shop attendant for a sample of the primer. This way you will be able to test a product before buying a full-size. In general, the primer should feel creamy or oily as indicated above.

How to Choose Makeup Primer for a Sensitive Skin
Primers key role is to shield your skin from the makeup, and therefore it is good for a sensitive skin. You just need to know what your skin is sensitive to and make sure you go for a primer that does not have the ingredients that react with your skin. You should avoid high fragrance primer and go for no fragrance or low fragrance when choosing the primer. Avoid primers made from non-organic ingredients and instead, use a primer with only organic ingredients (obviously, only if you are not sensitive to them). Some of the ingredients you can look for in the primer include one with green tea extract or niacinamide.
