Today I will be sharing my ultimate face and eyeshadow primer picks to achieving a flawless complexion. The last couple of weeks in London were very hot. That is why I faced a challenge to creating a makeup look that would last during the active day running errands, attending fashion and beauty events and looking gorgeous and presentable.
How to Choose an Eyeshadow and Face Primer
Bear in mind, hit is a very good test for the makeup. When it’s hot, beauty products tend to wear off quicker during the day and just melting. Therefore, you need to be very smart when choosing the products to be used for the makeup. The most crucial part is a primer. Primer is your base. If you get the base wrong, forget about good makeup day.
The key for a perfect makeup look is a correct choice and use of a primer. Nowadays, there are eyeshadow and face primers available on the market in a huge variety – from affordable to luxurious, from silicone based to illuminating, from bad to good! But how to choose the perfect one and how to use it correctly you may ask? Let’s start, I’ve got you covered!
My Favourite Under Eye and Eyeshadow Primers
It’s essential to use a primer if you would like to achieve an easy eyeshadow application. Good eyeshadow primer will not only even up your skin tone and help with cancelling a discolouration, but will help you with blending eyeshadows easily and get the most of the shadows pigmentation. Under eye primers are here to help you reducing dark circles, de-puffing your under eye area and hydrating the skin while wearing the makeup during the day. There are many under eye and eyeshadow primers available on the market today and they all serve different functions.
I always start my makeup with priming my eyes and under eye area. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, I’m a makeup junkie, secondly, I’m 25+, so I try to support my skin with additional hydration and protection. The primers for the under eye area I use at the moment are Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer and Benefit Puff Off Instant Eye Gel. The primers for the eyelids I use are Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer and Benefit Stay Don’t Stray. This is a selection of primers I use and can recommend to you.
Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer
The hydrating formula of this under eye beauty product primes the eye area while reducing the look of puffiness and dark circles. Smooths under eyes before makeup application or wear alone for instant brightening. I prefer to apply this primer in the beginning of the makeup, so it has some time to set and give me the best result. This primer has a soft pink colour and little unnoticeable shimmer to it. This helps to reduce dark circles by reflecting the light and working as a colour correcting product. Nothing crazy, just a soft tint to it. Benefit Puff Off Instant Eye Gel
You will achieve a very similar result with this Benefit’s Puff Off under eye gel. It has a cooling effect and helps to reduce puffiness under eyes. I really love the cooling effect and always enjoy using this instant gel. Puff Off does work! Read my full review of the Puff Off here.
Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
Apply a thin layer to bare lids. Smashbox recommends to waiting about 60 seconds before applying eyeshadow. I tend to apply eyeshadow primers in the beginning of the makeup, set it with a powder and move into applying a foundation. This eyeshadows primer will help to cancel a discolouration on your lids and will create a smooth base for blending eyeshadows. I love this primer – a little bit goes a really long way.
Benefit Stay Don’t Stray
Benefit Cosmetics is one of my most used brands of beauty products. The reason is – the quality of the products is fantastic, packaging is lovely and the team is just so friendly! Stay Don’t Stray is one of my Benefit’s must haves. It’s designed to hold shadow ‘stay put’, but also widely used as a concealer. Read my Benefit Stay Don’t stray review here.
My Favourite Face Primers
Once I’ve applied my eye and under eye primers, I then continue priming the face with face primers. The top primers I use at the moment are illuminating – Pixi Glowtion Day Dew and Flawless Beauty Primer, hydrating – Benefit The Porefessional: matte rescue gel, nourishing – Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil and mattifying – Benefit Cosmetics The poreFessional and Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer . Yes, I use oil in summer, don’t get stressed, I will explain!
Pixi Glowtion Day Dew
This primer is a natural glow creator. Botanical complex instantly moisturises and boosts dull skin. Lightweight, nourishing, protecting and youth-enhancing formula of this primer will provide your skin with perfect glowing finish and nourish it during the day. I love to apply just one drop of this primer all over my face before foundation. alternatively mix it in with your foundation for a glowing completion. But, don’t do so, if you have an oily skin. It will create more mess!
Flawless Beauty Primer Pixi by Petra
This illuminating primer by Pixi by Petra is a hydrating radiance primer. It adds a youthful glow to your skin. It’s very moisturising, hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types. This face primer has a neautral beige-pink colour to it. the formula is shimmering, which helps you to achieve glowing complexion. thanks to its shimmering parts in the formula, this primer evens up your skin tone by reflecting the light. Benefit The Porefessional: matte rescue
Matte Rescue is mattifying, pore blurring and gives you an invisible finish. When I first started to use The PoreFessional I’ve noticed that my skin become more hydrated and even in texture. I apply only one drop of the product in summer to help my skin being mattyfied during the day.
Benefit Cosmetics The poreFessional
The poreFessional – pro balm to minimise the appearance of pores – is my recent discovery. It’s an original formula of Benefit’s poreFessional and I love it. It has a beige undertone, helps to cover the pores and evens up skin discolouration too. I can’t use it on a very hot day as I find it melts, but this would be a perfect beauty essential for cooler days.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil
Primer Oil by Smashbox is one of this products that you are not sure about when just starting to use. When I saw primer oil on the packaging I thought it will never help me to prolong a makeup wear during the day. but it actually did. I love this primer and use it even in summer, just a very small amount. It works! Read my Photo Finish Primer Oil review here.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
The last, but not the least is a very old and very well-known silicone based primer from Smashbox. As well as the original poreFessional it wouldn’t be ideal for summer, but will be helpfull during winter months. It helps to even the pores and prolongs your makeup. Bear in mind, you need to be able to distribute a tiny amount of any silicone based primer on your skin to achieve a long lasting result. If you use too much, the makeup will get only worse. So be smart!
