Can we just take a second and wish a Happy 1 Year blog anniversary to Yukova Blog! I can’t believe the year has passed so quick. It was a very tough year full of hard work, long hours and stress, but at the same time it was filled with amazing events, meeting talented people, attending fashion week and lots more.
When I moved to the UK for good in July 2014, I was fascinated by the fact that I can do my own project and work for myself. And actually, I can make it work. It sounded absolutely surreal to me! But I thought I should give it a go and try to turn my dream into reality. Some of you may know that I have 2 degrees. Masters in Marketing, Kiev National Economic University and Bachelor’s in Fashion Design, Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts. I always knew I want to work in a fashion industry, but I never quite understood where do I fit the best and what my options are. Well, you never know before you try, do you?
Frankly, when I studied at uni I didn’t even know what fashion blogs were and that there was such a thing. My first thoughts were: “What? Why would people spend so much time writing about fashion and beauty and taking lots of photos?”. And here I am, 3 years later celebrating my blog’s first anniversary! Moreover, I’ve managed to create tons of content – 261 articles and tons of photos.
Things I’ve learnt from 1 year of blogging
The first thing I’ve learnt is that you should never stop learning. Being on top of the things, using new apps, editing software, developing your social media presence and improving photography skills is the key to success.
Think about your branding. I think it’s important to stay true to yourself and write about things you truly believe in. I know that my blog is a very good reflection of who I’m and what I like. I’ve realised that I’ve become much stronger person during past year and it’s affected my blog and brand to become stronger too. It’s important to develop your blog in accordance with your personal improvements.
Be nice! Not only if you are a blogger, just in general, being nice is a key to a happy life and less grey hair haha. Sometimes, unfortunately, I meet people or face situations, when somebody being rude to me for almost no reason. I feel like it’s important to stay calm, polite and nice. And trust me, over a time you will build an amazing circle of people in your life, who support you and trust in what you do. They will be your own oasis of happiness and motivation!
Work hard. The blogging world is very saturated at the moment. And I understand why – to be a blogger is an amazing experience and can potentially become your full-time job. But for this, you need to work hard, produce unique and useful content, create spot-on visuals and invest a lot of time in your blog. Don’t think that you can become a successful blogger spending 2-5 hours a week doing it. It just doesn’t work this way. And never will! Being a blogger is a hard work, but with amazing rewards.
Things I celebrate the 1st year Yukova blog anniversary
The first thing I want to celebrate is how much I’ve grown during past year. Last year proved to me that I can do what I love and make a living of it. When I’ve launched my blog it was a hobby, but very soon it started to overtake my life and I had to make a decision – to give it up or make it work and forget about my other projects. I continued and very happy about it. I’m very content now.
Lots of great content created and published. If you ask me if I regret publishing or don’t like any of my articles I would say ‘No’. I find it interesting for myself to see how I developed during the past year and my blog was improving accordingly. Some people think that in order to show your personality more, you have to write about personal things. But in my opinion, the content you create perfectly tells readers about you.
Engagement with my readers. It has always been important for me to know who my readers are. I’m grateful for every one of you, I honestly have the best readers and followers. I hope the Yukova community will grow and we can all become friends.
I’m grateful for
I’m so happy that I have you guys coming back every day to read my blog, share your thoughts and support me. You are my biggest motivation and will always be.
I’m very grateful for my family and boyfriend, who supported me during this year and didn’t let me give up. Even though my parents – Alexander and Inessa – and boyfriend Chris couldn’t understand how am I going to turn a blog into a career, they just wanted (and still want) me to be happy. So they just let me be.
I’m grateful for my sister Genia, who always helped me managed the blog and take the photos. Even though she has a small child, she always finds time to take some pics, read my blog and proofread articles for mistakes.
I’m grateful for all the companies I’ve met last year. For all who believes in my blog and supports me along my way.
And thanks to the building manager Steve, who let me take pics in front of the building haha.
I think it’s all for now. I’m going to have a champagne and a cake now. Just because I deserve to have a half-day off and drink champagne at 12am to celebrate my blog anniversary.
